The multi-award-winning Real Care app supporting the mental health of thousands of real estate professionals
Case study – Rise InitiativeIndustry: Real Estate
About the Real Care app project

Real Care is a free, multi-award-winning app, developed in collaboration with Rise Initiative, Australia’s not-for-profit organisation supporting the mental health and wellness of those in the real estate and property industry.

The app addresses major stressors faced by agents with tools to manage financial health, wellness checks and guidance for self-care. It also includes rapid response relief features for crisis intervention and access to an employee assistance feature providing confidential counselling services, courtesy of Domain

Challenge

The real estate industry can be a highly demanding and competitive industry, with a reported 81% of real estate professionals experiencing anxiety, and a further 25% experiencing burn out. The Revive research study found alarming levels of poor mental health, impaired work life balance, and subsequent unhealthy coping mechanisms within the industry.

It was imperative that Utility Creative develop an effective, user-friendly, and impactful tool to support an industry experiencing a mental health crisis.

Approach

Utility Creative worked closely with Rise Initiative, as well as technology, public health, and real estate industry experts, to deliver a digital health tool which provides essential mental health resources and support tailored for real estate workers and their families. The app was designed with a user-led approach, in consultation with Australian real estate agents.

The first iteration of the app launched in 2020, quickly became a valuable and frequently used mental health and wellbeing tool across the industry.

To ensure its continued relevance and effectiveness, Utility Creative created a new and improved version of the app in 2024, with a refreshed aesthetic to coincide with the full rebrand of the Rise Initiative.

Real Care 2.0 features improved user experience and accessibility, new technology, a modern tailored aesthetic and is specifically designed to meet the evolving needs of the real estate industry, with enhanced support and improved access to pivotal resources such as crisis lines and counselling services

Testimonial

The importance of mental wellness in real estate and property management has never been more important. When we think better, we feel better, and we perform better - both at work and at home with our loved ones.

With the launch of version 2.0, I couldn’t be prouder of the work we’ve done. It’s the culmination of thousands of hours of work, to make the app easier to connect with, and most importantly provide access to urgent help if needed.

We really enjoyed working with Utility Creative - their collaborative, research-driven approach has resulted in a fantastic tool that’s been widely embraced by our industry”.

- Kylie Davis,
Acting CEO, Rise Initiative

“As a principal, encouraging your team to download the Real Care app can be an important step to helping your team realise that they are not alone or the first people in real estate to experience how they are feeling. That on its own can be enormously powerful.

“At a business level, sharing information about the app can also be part of the actions you take to demonstrate that you have a structure in place for managing mental wellness for everyone in your team.”

Chris Hanley, Head of the Rise Initiative, and Principal at First National Byron.
